Home Projects Running vista on my v2k Installing Vista on my v2k Links

My v2000 is a unit I think I can live with for a while. It's not a solid as a Thinkpad, but it was about 1/3 the cost. I started reading on-line about some of the things other people have done with their AMD v2ks...I realized that I can have a notebook that will run circles around my desktop PC (Athlon T'bird at 1.8GHz) for well under $1,000.

Project 1: Replace the memory

My v2555us came with 2x256MB PC2700 200-pin DIMM RAM. I'm planning on removing it and moving to 2x512MB PC3200 200-pin. The system specs state that PC3200 is supported...with video sharing the memory it should help things.

Update: I have upgraded the memory to 2x512MB PC3200 RAM. This is the single best upgrade I've ever done on a computer! Boot and run times are greatly improved in XP and Vista.

Project 2: Replace the hard drive (7200rpm)

I have a 60GB 7200 Hitachi drive on order. I'm using about 15GB each on my XP and Vista partitions...Time for a bigger drive anyways. So we'll upgrade to a faster dive too.

Project 3: Upgrade the processor

There are several links on the web with info about this. The Turion MT series is reportedly a direct replacement for the Sempron and other Turion ML processors in these units.

Comments in AMD's forums support this..

Wipeout, up in Canada, set up an Intel v2000 (v2110) with similar specs on the Intel side of things.
