I've been running Vista as a dual-boot on my v2565us for a few weeks now. I'm using the "standard" 6-cell battery and am considering an upgrade to the larger, 12-cell battery.
The good:
The bad (remember that this is beta and will hopefully improve):
What runs, what doesn't...
| Work | |
| Photoshop CS | Runs fine |
| OpenOffice 2.0 | testing |
| Entertainment | |
| Rhapsody | Neither Rhapsody nor Rhapsody web run. There's supposedly some sort of DRM built into Vista that's blocking things. |
| Podnova | Web-based podcast manager runs fine in IE7. |
| Yahoo Widgets | Runs. Need to manually run setup.exe. Might give some errors, need to run manually the first time. |
| Communication | |
| Skype | Runs fine |
| Trillian | Installs fine. Needs full-on compatibility mode; otherwise you can't see your contact list. |
| Yahoo messenger | Y! messenger 8 runs fine. |
| Checkpoint VPN | testing |
Times & numbers:
| XP SP2 | Vista 5384.4 | |
| Boot...to logon screen | 56 | 67 |
| Boot...to desktop | 74 | 82 |
| Boot...ready to work | 96 | 148 |
| Battery life: 100% to shutdown | 135 | 99 |
| Shutdown | 27 | |
| Hibernate | 32 | 62 |
| Resume from Hibernate | 20 | 112 |
I have seen Vista betas hibernate and resume very quickly...one of the Microsoft folks I observed was running an HP high-end machine. His vista went down to Hibernate within 15 seconds, and resumed from hibernate within 15 seconds. I'm not sure what is causing my v2k to resume so slowly.
